Mat Dogs do well at Eureka tourney

On Friday and Saturday, the Bulldogs traveled to Eureka to take part in the Buzz Lucey Memorial Tournament. Out of 11 teams, the Whitefish grapplers finished a respectable fifth with a total of 94 points.
Zach Berger (119 pounds) won the championship in his weight class with an 8-5 decision over Eric Roe, of Eureka. Dalton Rice (130 pounds) won the championship round in his weight class with a pin over Dyllon Price of Eureka in 1:16.
Flathead won the tournament with 220.5 points, while Columbia Falls finished second with 177. Glacier finished third and Polson finished fourth.
Kaleb Prestegaard (152 pounds) won his class with a 10-7 decision victory over Joe Gross of Columbia Falls.
Derek Crittenden (215 pounds) was pinned by Kodie Kenfield of Columbia Falls in 2:59. Jonathan Reimer (119 pounds) was pinned by Adam Richardson of Columbia Falls in 1:43.
The Whitefish wrestling squad battled top-ranked Ronan on the road last Thursday, falling 60-12. The Chiefs are ranked second in the state in the preseason Class A coaches polls.
Only seven weight classes were contested in the Northwestern A dual match, and Ronan won them all by pins.
There were eight forfeits, with neither team fielding a wrestler at 98 and 135 pounds. Ronan is still undefeated on the season.
The Whitefish grapplers resume action on Jan. 2 on the road in Polson.
