Joseph William Wagner, 79, passed away Saturday, Feb.16, 2008, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center in Kalispell.

He was born Dec. 3, 1928, in Fort Atkinson, Wis., the 13th of 14 children born to Martin and Matilda (Endl) Wagner. Joseph received his early education at the Fort Atkinson schools, graduating from Fort Atkinson High School.

Following high school, he worked various jobs, including grocery stores, meat packing and finally at the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater, working in the shipping and receiving department until his retirement.

Joseph had many interests and hobbies, among them his love of fishing, dancing and jitterbugging. His green thumb was evident in his landscaping and flower gardens. He enjoyed planning and building homes.

Joseph married Martha Miller in Fort Atkinson Oct. 29,1949.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, 11 brothers and sisters and one son, Richard Wagner.

He is survived by his wife, Martha; daughter, Linda Ruther of Kalispell; four grandchildren, Tina Vogt of Gillette, Wyo., and Aaron Ruther, Adam Ruther and Jacob Ruther, all of Kalispell; two great-grandchildren, Brooke and Dustine; a brother, Gene Wagner, and a sister, Gertrude Oates, both of Janesville, Wis.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18 at Johnson Mortuary, with a rosary recited at 6:30 p.m. in the Johnson Mortuary Chapel. Mass of Christian burial will be held 12:10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb.19, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, with Father Vic Langhans as celebrant. Burial will follow in the C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial gifts be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
