SANDPOINT — When Zip’s Drive-In opens on Memorial Day, Councilman Michael Boge will achieve his longtime goal of becoming a Sandpoint business owner.

Although he is already a successful restaurateur with four businesses to his name, Boge has faced his share of good-natured ribbing from fellow council members for not having a restaurant in town.

“It’s been a running joke for a while, but I won’t have to hear that anymore,” Boge said.

The search for a suitable location began years ago, but nothing seemed right until recently, when Boge found a property he believes will be ideal for his restaurant.

“I had to be really patient over the years. Then I saw this property and the time felt right, so I went with it,” Boge said.

Because it will be his hometown restaurant, Boge is taking special care to make Sandpoint’s Zip’s the best, most unique business in his portfolio.

Known for its burgers, fish and chicken, Zip’s has gained a solid following throughout eastern Washington and North Idaho, and Boge hopes that when customers see the relaxed and friendly environment of Sandpoint’s Zip’s they will become regulars.

Boge said each of his restaurants has a theme that corresponds with its surrounding area, and he feels the Northwest lodge atmosphere the Sandpoint Zip’s will feature will make it stand out.

As a regional chain of restaurants, Boge does not feel a necessity to follow the lead of larger, more international fast food chains and takes pride in purchasing supplies from many Northwest-based companies.

Not only will Zip’s give residents a new dining option, it will also add 20-30 new jobs to the area and put money back into the local economy.
