The Lady Loggers were on the road over the weekend, losing to Whitefish by three points Friday and defeating Eureka Saturday, 42-22 .

"It was close throughout," said coach Jim May of Libby's game against Whitefish, who won, 54-51. "I thought we were scoring efficiently, but we had some breakdowns on offense."

The Lady Loggers and the Bulldogs went back and forth for the first three quarters, with Libby taking the lead at one point in the third.

Whitefish grew their lead to nine points in the fourth quarter.

"We lost track of a couple of their shooters," said May. "We had a couple of untimed turnovers - some of them happened at a time when we didn't score."

Although Libby rallied in the fourth quarter against the Northwestern A conference leaders, they were unsuccessful.

"We made a heck of a run at them. We got to 52-51 twice with the ball, but we just couldn't convert," said May, referring to the two unsuccessful three point plays they attempted in the last minute.

"Their nine point lead helped them," he added.

Jackie Mee led in scoring for Libby with 19.

"The other story is that we have a lot of people contributing," he said. "We're getting scoring from numerous people."

One of those Loggers is Brittany Martin, who led all scorers against Eureka on Saturday with 12 points.

Korey Kulbeck added 10 points, helping them to an eight point lead at halftime and an 8-5 record overall.

"They had a defense to shut down Jackie," said May of Eureka, who held Mee to a season low of 4 points.

But the rest of the team stepped in to take the lead.

"We slowly pulled away and won by a pretty big margin," said May.

The Loggers are five points away from being in first despite their close losses to Whitefish (1) and Bigfork (2), according to May.

"These kids really know we can beat them both, but at the same time we haven't done it yet."

Of their roadtrip to Columbia Falls this Friday, May is cautiously optimistic.

"We're road warriors for awhile. They are pretty athletic and play well at home," he said, adding the earlier season win over Columbia Falls was a tight game with a 10 point Logger victory.
