Season starts July 8

MOSES LAKE - Football season is right around the corner, but the Moses Lake Department of Parks and Recreation is helping prospective athletes get a jump on the action with a six-day contact football camp.

The camp begins July 8 and is open to seventh and eighth grade students at Chief Moses middle school and Frontier junior high school.

Recreation supervisor for the Department of Parks and Recreation Lori Moholt-Phillips said the camp is an opportunity for students to try contact football before committing to the sport for their schools in the fall.

"The camp is a good way for kids to try contact football to see if they like it, instead of signing up for football during the school season," she said.

Participants must have proof of insurance to attend the camp and the camp is designed to improve football skills and introduce safe and proper techniques for blocking and tackling.

The majority of the coaches for the camp include high school coaches, Moholt-Phillips said.

Students will be grouped with fellow students in the same grade for safety.

The camp runs from July 8 through 10 and July 15 through 17, with a jamboree concluding the camp on July 17, Moholt-Phillips said.

Participants may pre-register at the Moses Lake Parks and Recreation office.
