Pirates win two of three to begin home stand

MOSES LAKE - Desert winds hoisted the sails of the Moses Lake Pirates as the team returned to Larson Playfield Thursday following a seven-game road trip. The Pirates went 2-5 on the road trip.

On Thursday night, the Pirates fell to the Wenatchee AppleSox 5-2 in a one game series. The loss was the first game in a nine-game Moses Lake home stand.

Wenatchee scored five runs on seven hits, and committed two errors, The Pirates scored two runs on four hits and committed seven errors. Pirates pitcher A.J. Morris pitched seven innings and was credited with the loss.

On Friday night the Olympia Athletics faced a pumped up Moses Lake team that was ready for a breakout series.

The non-conference match up was a game in which Pirates outfielder Ty Rubio hit his first inside the park home run.

The Pirates scored 10 runs on nine hits and committed one error to defeat the Athletics 10-4.

Rubio said he was stunned following his home run in the eighth inning. He said he was only expecting a triple.

"I thought it was only going to be a triple," he said, "but the coach told me to take off".

The Pirates concluded the two-game series with a series sweep of the Olympia Athletics.

Moses Lake defeated Olympia 12-2 in Saturday night's victory over the Athletics.

Moses Lake continues its nine-game home stand tonight against the visiting Bend Elks at Larson Playfield.
