Mother allegedly attempted suicide in Quincy

QUINCY - Quincy police credit a boy for making an emergency phone call that saved his mother's life Saturday morning.

The 11-year-old boy called police after watching his mother lose consciousness while talking on the phone with his father, Quincy Sgt. Dan Dopps stated. The woman reportedly ingested several pills in an alleged suicide attempt.

"The boy's mother was on the phone and suddenly stopped talking while speaking with the boy's father," he noted.

When police arrived to the D Street Southeast residence they entered through an open window believing the woman was in danger after no one answered the door.

"Officers found the woman on her bed, unconscious and unresponsive with labored breathing," Dopps stated. "There was evidence at the scene that the woman had taken several pills. One of the officers, also a paramedic, assisted with administering medication to reverse the effects of the pills taken by the woman."

She was stabilized at Quincy Valley Medical Center and transported to Central Washington Hospital for advanced treatment.

"Police believe had the 11-year-old boy not called the police for help and had the police not thoroughly investigated and taken prompt action, the boy's mother may not have survived," Dopps stated.
