Moses Lake beat Spokane RiverHawks in final game

MOSES LAKE - The 2007 West Coast Collegiate Baseball League Champion Moses Lake Pirates opened the regular season on Friday by splitting a three game series with the Spokane RiverHawks.

Game one saw the Pirates fall to the RiverHawks 2-1 in a pitchers battle.

The Pirates scored their only run in the fifth inning on three hits with two errors in the game. The RiverHawks scored two runs on seven hits and only one error.

In game two Spokane jumped out to an early three-run lead. By the fifth inning the Pirates had tied the game up 3-3. The sixth inning saw the Spokane scoring two runs, followed by one in the seventh.

The Pirates' best chance of taking the lead came in the eighth, when they scored two runs, stranding two. The final score was Spokane 6, Moses Lake 5.

Game three looked like it was going to be a classic rout with the Pirates scoring early and often, jumping out to a 10-run lead. Spokane rallied in the top of the eighth scoring seven runs bringing the final score to 10-7.

D.C. Legg was 2-for-4 scoring two runs as he blasted a shot over the left field fence in the bottom of the fifth.

"It's great to see D.C. come in ready to play," Pirates skipper Trevor Brown said.

The Pirates take to the road this week in a trip that will be "a good test of the team chemistry" and "a chance to get closer as a team," according to Brown.

The Pirates will travel to western Washington to take on the Bellingham Bells in Bellingham in a three-game series that begins Tuesday. Game time is 7 p.m. and can be heard on line at www.mlpirates.com.
