MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake Babe Ruth Baseball League 16U Sun Devils are on a five-game winning streak entering the Scarlet Sizzler Tournament this weekend in Yakima, Wash.

The Sun Devils blasted the Spokane Ferris Saxons in a three-game series in which they scored 17 hits in the first game. Half of those 17 hits went to Nick Laszlo, Cameron Alvarado and Colby Swartz, who each had three hits.

Game two was a 13-3 rout on the strength of Sun Devils pitchers Mitch Yada, Nick Dodds and Matt Noyla. Game three was played in Moses Lake on Saturday with a decided victory over Ferris. On Monday the Sun Devils swept Mt. Spokane in a double header that featured both solid pitching and hitting.

The Scarlet Sizzler Tournament in Yakima will be a test of the players, but Sun Devils coach Quintz Whitaker is very pleased with his team's performance.

"The boys have been playing good team baseball. It is exciting to watch their improvement and ability to work hard to pull out a win," Whitaker said. "We travel to Yakima this weekend for a four-day tournament against some of the toughest teams in the league. Hopefully they can continue to play hard, keep our offense going and we come out with a tournament title."
