After six years of searching, Larry Cousins, the owner of The Family Barber Shop, has found a barber to assist him.

He's Larry's brother-in-law, Drew Browne, who has been cutting hair for one year.

“I wanted to be able to live in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and I am not a logger or a farmer,” said Browne, who has been visiting his family here for 14 years.

Cousins offered Browne the job, and after considering it for awhile, Browne accepted and moved to Spokane in 2007 to attend Total Cosmetology Training Center.

“It is hard to find someone (to hire) in this region,” said Cousins, who started his business in February 1996. “I just needed help and someone to pass the torch to.”

He plans to retire in three years.

“When I retire I want to live an open working barber shop,” Cousins said. “My brother-in-law is going to make that happen.”

He has been cutting hair for 27 years and moved here from Sacramento, Calif., 14 years ago.

“Bonners Ferry is a little place of heaven,” Cousins said. “Most places aren't like this anymore. It is a great place to be.”

The Family Barber Shop is opened 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. Walk-ins only are accepted.
