Saturday boosted attendance

MOSES LAKE - The aroma of elephant ears, curly fries and corn dogs dominated the Grant County Fairgrounds Saturday afternoon.

The most popular attraction at the 2008 Spring Fair/Home Show might be the Davis Show Carnival, Fairgrounds Manager Bill West said.

Children could be seen running toward rides trying to be first in line, some dragging puppies and dogs behind them. The fair rides included the Ali Baba, the Tornado, a haunted house, a roller coaster and a toy horse carousel.

The event had a rough start with the rain and snow on Friday, but more people began to filter into the fairgrounds as the sun reared above the clouds Saturday, he said.

Judges were critiquing livestock entries Saturday, West said. The livestock show took place Friday allowing entrants to sell their prize-winning animals Saturday.

In addition to livestock judging, there was a stallion show, a pack mule event, rodeo events and hourly giveaways Saturday.

West said the hourly raffle ticket giveaway was very popular this year.

The 2008 show attracted more vendors than past shows, he added.

The vendors included an old-fashioned photo booth, handmade clothes and jewelry, dessert and snack stands and several carnival games.

The Home Depot conducted home project demonstrations Saturday, West said. The demonstrations included projects to encourage youth to learn how to use tools.

The show ended Sunday with scheduled events including a dog agility show, the carnival, barrel racing and a band featuring Hispanic music.
