OTHELLO - An Othello man died Thursday night after reportedly failing to yield to an oncoming vehicle on state Route 26, two miles west of Othello.

Ricardo R. Jimenez, 79, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Jimenez was driving a 1987 Chevrolet Cavalier westbound on the highway, preparing to turn southbound onto Thacker Road, the state patrol advised. He reportedly collided with an eastbound vehicle. Each vehicle came to a stop on the eastbound shoulder of the highway.

The eastbound vehicle was a 2005 Kenworth semitractor pulling a 2008 Wilson livestock trailer. The semitractor was driven by Howard B. Weddle, 53, Ephrata.

He was reportedly uninjured.

It's unclear if there were any animals in the livestock trailer.

The 1987 Chevrolet Cavalier was totaled and towed from the scene. The 2005 Kenworth semitractor sustained approximately $10,000 worth of damages and was towed from the scene, the state patrol advised. The livestock trailer was not damaged.

According to the state patrol the cause of the collision was due to Jimenez failing to yield the right of way to Weddle. No citations were issued.
