Cougars 10, Warriors 0

WARDEN - The Warden Cougars played host to Cle Elum-Roslyn Warriors as the girls SCAC District softball tournament went under way on Thursday. The sun was blazing on the field and so were the Lady Cougar's bats as they shut out the Warriors 10-0.

The Cougars scored 3 runs in the first inning and 7 in the second of the five-inning game.

Warden's star pitcher Randi Wright was hit by a pitch in the third inning, yet managed to complete the shut-out ball game. Speaking between innings, sophomore Wright commented on the end of the season, saying she's "going to miss the seniors" and was "proud of the way the defense played" - a defense that "worked together as a family."

Warden Coach Wes Richins complimented the defense that allowed the lead off runner to get on base in the first four innings but "failed to score." The Cougars "took advantage of a younger Cle Elum pitcher," he said of the shut out.

It was a game of singles and walks as every Lady Cougar made a hit in the lopsided contest.

Warden advances to the next round of playoffs at the TRAC Center in Pasco at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
