PASCO - The Warden Cougars continued their quest of a state championship as they dominated regional playoff action in the South Central Athletic Conference on Saturday.

After crushing Cle Elum-Roslyn 10-0 at home on Thursday, the Cougars took on No. 1 seed Naches in the first game of the double elimination tournament. In the 12-0 loss, Naches failed to score as star pitcher Randi Wright pitched her second shut out of the playoffs.

At the plate sluggers Sandra Castoreno went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in, Randi Wright hit 2-for-5 and two RBIs and Jennifer Guerra blasted a double.

In game two, Warden took on the Connell Eagles for the championship in what coach Wes Richins called "one hard-fought ball game."

"Randi Wright was tough as nails," Richins said, as she led the Cougars to a 4-2 victory that took 12 innings to complete.

The score was tied at zero at the end of regulation play. The Cougars scored four in the 12th inning on Randi Wright's sacrifice bunt, and several passed ball. The Eagles could only counter with two runs, giving the championship to Warden.

The Royal Knights had a good playoff finishing third with a 6-3 win over Riverview, sending them to the state finals along with Warden.

The teams next play at the WIAA/Dairy Farmers of Washington/Les Schwab Tires 1A Softball Championships at Franklin Fields in Spokane on Friday.
