A Bonners Ferry man was killed after hitting a deer struck by another motorist at 8:30 a.m. Friday on U.S. Highway 95 near Elmira Store.

Alan L. Roebuck, 69, died after the deer crashed through the windshield of his 1987 Honda Civic, Idaho State Police said. A passenger in Roebuck’s compact car, Georgina S. Roebuck, was treated and released from Bonner General Hospital.

Police said Stephen L. Cummings, 62, of Sandpoint, was northbound in a Chevrolet Sprint when he hit the deer. The collision with the subcompact sent the deer in the southbound lane and into the path of Roebuck’s car.

Neither Cummings nor his passenger, Susan R. Stevens, were injured, police said. The drivers and passengers in both vehicles were wearing seat belts.

A partial obituary for Alan Roebuck appears on page 2A of today’s Herald. Bonners Ferry Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
