WARDEN - The Warden Cougars football team fell into an early hole and couldn't claw their way out as the Connell Eagles traveled to Warden and flew away with the South Central Athletic Conference victory Friday night.

Connell jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back as the Eagles rolled to a 52-7 victory.

After the game Warden head football coach Erik Skone said his team did not perform at its best.

"We lacked execution on the offensive end," he said. "We missed some key blocks."

Connell's Carlis Bailon-Schubert ran for two scores Friday night and caught another one.

Skone said the Connell rushing attack gave his defense trouble all night.

"They have a strong running back and we tried to arm-tackle him," he said.

While the Cougars fell in defeat, Skone said there were bright moments for Warden.

"Scott Handerson stepped in at safety and made some tackles for us," he said. "He looks like he is ready for varsity football."

With Warden battling a 52-0 deficit late in the fourth quarter, running back Eddie Navarro scored on an 8-yard touchdown run to get the Cougars on the scoreboard.

With the loss, the Cougars fell to 2-7 on the season and will host the Cle Elum Warriors Friday night.

Both teams enter the season finale with 2-7 records.

Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
