EPHRATA - The Ephrata Lady Tigers volleyball team lived to play another day after crushing the Wapato Wolves Tuesday night in three straight games.

Ephrata won 27-25, 25-10 and 25-16 to earn the Central Washington Athletic Conference 2A victory.

The Lady Tigers took on Wapato in a match up with playoff seedings on the line.

Ephrata is 10 games behind league leading Selah and a loss would hurt the Lady Tigers' seeding.

Wapato jumped out to a significant 6-2 lead before the Lady Tigers rallied, tying the game at 10-10.

Both teams continued the battle at the net with neither the Tigers nor the Wolves gaining the upper hand.

Wapato took the lead in game one 19-18 and held it until Ephrata rebounded to tie the game 24-24.

The Lady Tigers went on to outscore Wapato three points to one as they earned the 27-25 victory.

Ephrata came alive at the service line in the second game as the Lady Tigers blasted ace after ace en route to a 15-4 lead.

Wapato would never get back in the game as Ephrata rolled to a 25-10 victory.

The third game was a serving battle with Wapato scoring the two of the first four points of the game with aces.

The Lady Tigers responded, rattling off seven unanswered points.

With the Lady Tigers leading 7-4, both teams dug deep with sustained rallies. Wapato never closed the gap as Ephrata earned the 25-16 win.

Ephrata head volleyball coach Charlotte Thromgood praised her girls for their play and would have been proud of them regardless of the outcome.

"The girls played hard all season and never gave up," Thromgood said.

The Ephrata Lady Tigers return to action this Saturday when the compete in the Central Washington Athletic Conference playoffs.
