Crafts, baked goods for sale
EPHRATA - People lined up outside of the doors of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic School before the doors opened at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
They were waiting see the baked goods, crafts, books and other items available at the Young Ladies Institute of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church's bazaar.
Brenda Follet, an institute member, said people came from Moses Lake, Soap Lake and Ephrata to purchase items at the bazaar.
"We had people from all around the area," Follett said. "It's the first time in several years that people have been waiting outside. There was a great spirit here this year."
Follett sat behind the institute's baked goods table, which was almost empty by 1:30 p.m. Jeanette Daurie, the institute's president, said this year's event has been a success.
"We have sold out of cinnamon rolls and brownies," she said. "Lunch was a big success."
One of the vendors, St. Rose of Lima's high school youth group, was selling baskets with movies, stuffed animals and snacks. Kathy Morton, one of the adult members of the group, said they were busy most of the morning.
The youth group is trying to raise enough money to send 18 children along with five adults to Jamaica to build homes. Last year, four children and two adults went to the Baton Rouge, La., to help build houses there.
"We're just starting (the fund-raising)," she said. "We want everybody who has the heart to be able to go."
