SPANGLE - The Columbia Basin Secondary School Lady Phoenix visited the Upper Columbia Academy Lions and came home with a victory.

The Lady Phoenix capitalized on sophomore Josie Awbrey's serving to earn the three game sweep on the road.

The win was the second for the Lady Phoenix.

The Columbia Basin Secondary School volleyball program is in its first year of competition.

Awbrey led the Lady Phoenix charge. When Awbrey served the Lady Phoenix went on scoring runs of eight, seven, and five points to down the Lions.

Columbia Basin Secondary School head coach Lanny Ledeboer said Awbrey has improved dramatically this season.

"Josie is a kid we are counting on for the next two years," he said.

Senior Austin Buchmann held the Lady Phoenix together on the court with her leadership, Ledeboer said.

The Lady Phoenix have struggled this season, and Ledeboer said he was proud of the way his team earned the victory.

"It was good to get a win," Ledeboer said. "We've been getting close and then coming up short. It felt good to get over the mental hump and be able to finish off a match strong."
