Students at Alberton School got together for homecoming last week to support their athletes and show some school spirit.

The festivities for the week started off Thursday evening after the Lady Panther’s volleyball game.

Students left the school and went to a bonfire celebration south of the football field.

After building up the bonfire and tossing around a few footballs by firelight, the crowd gathered around a car donated to the Alberton Student Body Council for the event.

Students and parents paid $1 per hit to demolish the vehicle with sledge hammers to raucous cheers from the crowd.

The group managed to break two different sledge hammers before the event was finished and the car lay in shambles of shattered glass and bent metal.

Friday afternoon Alberton students once again got together to celebrate their school with a parade down Railroad Avenue.

The freshmen, sophomore, junior, and senior classes each made a float for the parade. The Homecoming Princesses — senior Jordan Marvin, junior Olivia Foley, sophomore Jasmine Randa, and freshman Lexie Eurchel — were all carried through the parade on the hoods and on the sun roofs of different cars.

The Alberton High School Band marched in the parade and kept cadence while making several stops to play the school’s fight song.

Alberton’s very own Panther could also be seen strolling through the parade tossing out candy and waving to excited fans.

During halftime at the Panthers varsity football game Friday evening, the Homecoming Princesses were brought out onto the field by their escorts, senior Jerry Brovold, junior Shane Foley, sophomore Cody Robertson, and freshman Brandon Lail.

Afterwards the junior class float won best float in the parade.
