Wilson Creek sits in second place

WILSON CREEK - The Wilson Creek Devils came away with a sweep of the visiting Mansfield Kernels Tuesday night.

Wilson Creek stopped the Kernels 25-12, 25-12 and 25-18 to earn the North Central Washington 1B Conference volleyball victory.

While the Wilson Creek volleyball teams sits in second place in the league behind Moses Lake Christian, Wilson Creek head coach Mike Ottis said his team needs to focus as the playoffs approach.

"We're working on the mental aspect of our game, we are working on consistency," he said. "We did what we needed to do to win the match."

Ksenje Fredere led the Wilson Creek attack with 11 kills.

Jackie Treat added eight aces and led the Devils with 25 assists.

Brynna Stevens led Wilson Creek with 15 aces and Kali Winfrey provided five kills in the victory.

Ottis was impressed with Winfrey's performance.

"She provides a good situation for us," he said. "We need another hitter active at the net."

The Devils are 8-2 on the season and Ottis hopes his team builds on their success thus far.

"I'm hoping we start building on each match," he said. "These are make or break matches for our season. I hope it spreads to the rest of our matches."

Wilson Creek returns to action tonight when they travel to Thorp to take on the Tigers.
