Lions play tonight for league title

PATEROS - The Moses Lake Christian Academy (MLCA) girls volleyball team returned home from Pateros Tuesday night with a North Central Washington 1B league victory.

The MLCA Lady Lions improved to 8-1 in league play with the victory over the Nannies.

The Lady Lions won three straight games to earn the three-game sweep. MLCA won 25-14, 25-19 and 25-13.

Melissa Verhage led Moses Lake Christian with six aces and Kristina Firouzi had 25 assists.

Lady Lions senior Esther Timofeyev had 10 kills and five blocks in the winning effort.

After the match MLCA head volleyball coach Dean Spurbeck was impressed with his team's effort Tuesday night.

"We played pretty well," he said. "Kristina stepped in as a setter and served really well."

MLCA came off a loss to Thorp Saturday to defeat Pateros Tuesday night.

"We kind of had mental lapses with the Thorp game," Spurbeck said. "We performed well against Pateros."

The Lady Lions' league victory sets up a championship-deciding match with league leading Wilson Creek tonight at Moses Lake Christian.

The winner of tonight's match will win the league championship.

Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
