QUINCY - The Quincy Jacks earned their first football win of the season as they defeated the visiting Grandview Greyhounds 34-33 Friday night.

After going winless in the Central Washington Athletic Conference this season, the Jacks hosted Grandview on homecoming night.

Looking to draw on the energy of the homecoming crowd, the Jacks played well enough to earn the victory.

Quincy jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, outscoring the Greyhounds 14-0.

The Jacks scored on the strength of a 2-yard touchdown run by sophomore Manny Ybarra to take a 7-0 lead early.

Quincy scored again following a 36-yard touchdown run by Breck Webley for a 14-0 lead.

Grandview marched down the field for their first score in the second quarter.

The Greyhounds cut the Quincy lead to 14-7 following a touchdown from Storm Shea.

Shea powered the ball across the goalline on a 2-yard run.

The Jacks first possession of the second quarter resulted in a punt.

The Greyhounds would tie the game at 14-14 with a 40-yard touchdown pass from Josue Oros to Jose Lara.

Quincy regained the lead following a possession that included four first downs.

Ybarra would give the Jacks a 20-14 halftime lead after scoring on his second 2-yard touchdown run of the night to cap the Quincy drive.

Quincy held Grandview scoreless in the third quarter to open the second half.

The Jacks took a 26-14 lead in the third quarter when Brett Peterson caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Jackson Hodges.

Quincy couldn't hold back the Greyhounds in the fourth quarter action when Grandview rallied for a 27-26 lead with just minutes to play, scoring 13 unanswered points.

With 1:40 left on the clock, Quincy worked their way down the field, scoring on a 9-yard touchdown pass from Hodges to Peterson.

The Jacks converted the two-point conversion attempt, taking a 34-27 lead.

Grandview took over with only 43 seconds left in regulation play.

In 42 seconds, the Greyhounds marched to the Quincy 20 yard line with the game on the line.

Grandview lined up with receivers spread to the left side of the field with only 1.3 seconds left and zero timouts.

The Greyhounds snapped the football and Oros scrambled in the backfield before throwing a Hail Mary pass to the endzone.

As the clock expired, Lara grabbed the ball out of the air for Grandview. With no time left on the clock, the Greyhounds scored, pulling within one point of Quincy.

Rather than tie the game by kicking the extra point and going to overtime on the road, the Greyhounds attempted a two-point conversion for the win.

With an energized defense on homecoming, the Jacks stopped Grandview's two-point attempt for a 34-33 victory.

The win over Grandview gave Quincy both their first win and their first Central Washington Athletic Conference victory of the year.

After the win Quincy head coach Terry Dion was not surprised at how well his team played Friday night.

"The boys played with passion, and kept coming back and back," Dion said. "It was a real gutsy, heartfelt effort all-around."
