Dorothy Clapper, 84,

beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Oct. 25, 2008, in Lewistown at Central Montana Medical Center.

She was born May 2, 1924, at the family home to Reu and Mauna Loa Carr, who told her sisters she was their little May basket.

After graduating Flathead County High School, she worked at the Columbia Falls Veterans Home where she met Eugene Clapper. She also worked at the telegraph office in Kalispell, Conrad Bank, Snowline Trees, Cherry Warehouse, Flathead Milk Tester and City Plumbing and Heating of Columbia Falls.

She married Eugene F. Clapper on May 3, 1945, while Gene was on leave from the Army. She and Gene resided and worked the Carr farm in Creston until 1963, and then moved to Evergreen.

Dorothy loved to roller skate and she and Gene were the envy of the floor. They were also active square dancers for years. She was involved in 4-H and a current member of Eastside Grange in Creston.

Dorothy loved doing all kinds of crafts, crocheting, gardening and especially loved getting together with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Bernadine Burtsfield, Maurine Johnson and Ruth Jones.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Eugene Clapper; two sisters, Mary Leighty and Helen Cascaden; her daughter, Barbara, and husband, Scott Young, granddaughter Darcey Young and Jeff Hall, granddaughter Brandi Young, and great-grandson, Trey Soucie; daughter, Connie Melton, grandson Jerimi Melton and wife Mandy, two great-grandsons, Ricker and Lane, grandson Justin Melton and wife Shoni, great-granddaughter Cody, great-grandson Wyatt, granddaughter Cora Burleigh and husband Jessie, great-grandson Landon, great-granddaughter Avila, and grandson Jason Melton; and son, Donald Clapper, and wife, Linda.

Memorial services will be held at 6:30 p.m. today, Oct. 28, at the Remington Central Montana Chapel in Lewistown. A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at the Faith Alliance Church in Kalispell.

Climate change awards announced
