The Bonners Ferry High School Boys Soccer Team will be defend its state title this season.

“I think we will do fine this year,” said head coach Wayne Wilkerson, who has been coaching for 10 years and last year was named Coach of the Year.

Assistant coaches are Ed Moe and Wanda Wilkerson.

Last year’s state champs were 18-3-1 and lost six seniors, three of which were starters.

Leading the players this year are captains Miguel Mendez and Jody Wilkerson, both seniors.

“I am expecting big things from them both,” said Wayne Wilkerson.

He also has high hopes for this year’s upcoming players Andre Zarate, Alex Mendez, Matt Evans and Carey Reynolds.

The team will have a hard schedule for the year by the coach’s choice.

“We enjoy to play hard games,” said Wayne Wilkerson, who would like to see the community come out and support the team. “Wins and losses don’t matter. It makes us a better team.”
