QUINCY - Despite trailing only 6-0 to the Lakeside Eagles at halftime, the Quincy Jacks could not capitalize as they lost their season opener 26-8.

The Eagles scored in the first quarter on a 3-yard run to give Lakeside a 6-0 lead when the extra point attempt failed.

Middle Linebacker Kevin Hille led the Jacks with 16 tackles and Michael Reyes had a sack for Quincy.

Before Friday night's kick off, head coach Terry Dion told his players he was impressed with their dedication this summer.

"They have had a great attitude this whole camp and us coaches are real proud of them," he said.

The Eagles jumped out to a 19-0 by the end third quarter before Quincy got on the scoreboard following a Manny Ybarra rushing touchdown.

Ybarra converted a two-point conversion attempt to cut the Lakeside lead to 19-8 in the fourth quarter.

Lakeside distanced themselves from the Jacks with a fourth quarter touchdown of their own to give the Eagles a 26-8 victory.

Despite the loss, Dion was proud of his team's performance.

"(They) played pretty consistently with a lot of heart," he said. "We only had 18 players suited up and they showed great toughness hanging in there."

Quarterback Jackson Hodges led the Quincy passing attack, connecting on 12 of his 34 pass attempts for 135 yards. Hodges also threw three interceptions for the Jacks.

Following the loss, Dion addressed his team.

" Lets learn from this and get better every week," he said. "We are real proud that you played hard and we will get better individually and as a team when more players get eligible."

The Jacks travel to Prosser Friday night.
