WARDEN - While football teams from the Columbia Basin opened the 2008 high school football season Friday night, the Warden Cougars and the Quincy Jacks started the 2008 high school volleyball season Saturday.

Warden took advantage of five serving aces from Jennifer Guerra and five kills from Kim McPartland to defeat visiting Quincy three games to two.

The Quincy Jacks won the first two games of the match up 25-17 and 25-22 before Warden won the final three games 25-13, 25-14 and 15-12, Warden head coach Jeff Kottong said.

"It was the first home game of the season," he said. "We had some jitters and we settled down after the first two games. The girls didn't give up."

Warden's Amanda Martinez finished the contest with 18 assists and Cassandra Kisler finished with two serving aces.

Taylor Kunkel of Quincy finished with seven kills, three blocks and 14 digs. Manda Brindle had three aces for the Jacks.
