WENATCHEE - The Moses Lake Chiefs swim team used two first-place finishes to cap a strong team performance at the Eastern Washington Relays in Wenatchee.

Courtney Schwiesow, Kim Kardong and Cari Cortez came away with a victory in the 150-meter breastroke relay and Schwiesow, Kardon, Elara Grant and Megan Schuh gave the Chiefs another victory in the mixed age group relay.

Moses Lake coach Tony St. Onge said his team is performing well early in the season.

"The team is swimming pretty fast times for this early in the season," he said. "We know we need to work hard this year to be competitive because we graduated a lot of good swimmer.

Moses Lake also earned a third place finish in the 300-meter individual medley relay and a fourth place finish in the diving relay.

The Chiefs are dedicated to improving this season, St. Onge said.

"This group has really taken on the challenge to be better and just mediocre," he said.

The Chiefs are led this season by captains Cortez, Heather Devine, Hannag Grigg and Megan Schuh.
