The 5th Annual Canine Caper 5K Run/Walk for Dogs and Humans was a huge success with 81 participants, according to Rhonda Hamerslough, executive director of Second Chance Animal Adoption.

“We were so happy,” said Hamerslough. “Our numbers were up from last year. We got a lot of good feedback and people had a lot of fun.”

Finishing first in the 3.1-mile run for adults was Dave Hampton with his dog, Brew. Junior winner was Amaonn McCoy with his dog, Tikka.

With a little over $2,000 raised, the event attracted runners from as far as Missoula, Mont. Many also came from Sagle, Sandpoint and Coeur d’ Alene. All proceeds will go to the construction of a shelter for SCAA.

Awards went to the smallest dog, Snickers; biggest dog, Titan; prettiest female, Timber; handsomest male, Junior; best dressed, Sumo Jack; most talented, Dutchess; most physically fit, Stella; best tail wagger, Zachariah; and dog that most resembles its owner, Isabelle.

Activities at the event included dog paw painting, a professional photographer, a vet clinic doing micro-chipping and vaccinations, band Alliance, and food from Border Bob’s Barbeque Sandwiches. The city and county put on drug dog exhibition with Deputy Chief Joel Minor and dog Sally Sue and Cpl. Dave Schuman with dog Malibu.
