District would convert adjacent dealership

QUINCY - The Quincy school board is holding a public hearing to modify a resolution for spending money generated by bonds.

A public hearing is scheduled for Oct. 14 at noon at Quincy High Tech High, 404 1st. Ave., S.W.

Board members approved a recommendation Tuesday to alter use of the funds and then voted to set a public hearing on the issue.

The modified resolution would allow the school district to spend voter-approved bonds funding on upgrading an existing building for transportation facilities, according to District Superintendent Burton Dickerson.

Dickerson said the previous resolution specified the district would use bonds to build a new facility.

According to the resolution, transportation facilities would be improved with a portion of $5 million in bonds, which were issued in 2006.

The new resolution allows the district to purchase property adjacent to Quincy High School, at 721 F Street S.E., and turn a "farm implement dealership facility situated thereon into a new transportation facility, rather than construct and equip a new transportation facility," the resolution states.

Funding for the improvements is part of approximately $19.9 million in bonds approved by voters in 1997, according to the resolution.
