Columbia Falls High School juniors Dustin VonFeldt and John Woody have been invited to represent Montana football in the 21st annual Down Under Sports Tournaments this summer in Australia. The tournaments span June 18-29.

VonFeldt was selected to play in two Down Under games as either a linebacker or receiver, and Woody has a roster spot as a running back.

The Wildcat juniors led Columbia Falls to the second round of the Class A state playoffs in 2008. During the season, the 6-foot, 175-pound VonFeldt had 64 tackles, 9 1/2 sacks, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and one interception.

Woody (5-9, 170) had 41 carries for 302 yards last season, and caught five passes for 45 yards. He returned three kickoffs for 74 yards and a touchdown, and two punts for 19 yards. He scored 38 points on six touchdowns and a two-point conversion. On defense, Woody had one interception.

Both VonFeldt and Woody were Northwestern A all-conference picks — VonFeldt as a linebacker and Woody as a receiver.

"I was pretty surprised and excited," VonFeldt said of being selected for the Down Under Sports football games. "I can't wait to go."

Derek Crittenden and Sean Sagen of Whitefish were also invited to participate in the Down Under Sports football events. Crittenden is a tight end and linebacker; Sagen plays offensive and defensive line for the Bulldogs.

Steve Kurschner is the head coach of the Montana team.

Athletes chosen for football play a first-round game, then have another contest for either the championship or third place. They'll have just one day of practice before that first game. Players like VonFeldt and Woody will have high school camps under their belts by then, though. They will take part in the Wildcat camp June 1-5.

VonFeldt and Woody are currently raising funds to help pay for their trip to Australia. They are selling raffle tickets for $2 each. The winner is in for quite a treat — a trip for two to Australia to take in the Down Under Sports Tournaments. At the conclusion, they will travel with VonFeldt, Woody and other athletes for a three-day vacation on Oahu in Hawaii.
