MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Parks and Recreation will host the annual Hershey Track Meet on April 14 at the Moses Lake High School track.
The Hershey Track Meet is an opportunity for local youth to exercise, said recreation supervisor Lori Moholt-Phillips.
“It’s a free event that promotes healthy activities and exercise,” she said. “Anyone can participate. Even if they aren’t into running, they can do the field events.”
While the Hershey Track Meet is an opportunity for local youth to exercise, Moholt-Phillips said the event would not be possible without the volunteers.
“The Moses Lake High School track team and the after school co-ed track coaches will help at the event,” she said. “Without them, it wouldn’t happen. The meet takes a lot of volunteers.”
Participant between the ages of 9 and 14 can compete in the meet. There will be three boys divisions and three girls divisions and divisions are separated by age. Divisions include boys 9-10, girls 9-10, boys 11-12, girls 11-12, boys 13-14, and girls 13-14.
Participants can enter either two track events and one field event or two field events and one track event.
Hershey Track Meet events include the 50-meter dash, the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 4X100-meter relay, standing long jump, and softball throw.
Participants can advance to the district meet in Wenatchee this June with an opportunity to advance to the state, regional and national meets. The national Hershey Track Meet will be held in Hershey, Pa.
Participants must register with the Parks and Recreation Department by April 7. Registrations will not be accepted the day of the event.
