Western News | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 16 years, 9 months AGO
A singles sweep helped the Libby High School boys tennis team to a 4-3 victory over Polson on the home courts Thursday afternoon.
The Loggers’ Alex Cislo, Hunter Sheffield, Cree Maloney and Levi Edwards-Myslicki all won their matches against their Pirate counterparts – and in fairly easy fashion. In those four matches, Libby’s players won eight of nine sets.
Cislo beat Tyler Engebretson, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Sheffield won 6-4, 6-0; Maloney won 6-1, 6-2; and Edwards-Myslicki won 6-0, 6-2.
It was a different story in doubles, however, with the Pirates taking those three matches. The closest match came at No. 1 doubles when Polson’s Seth Hovenkotter and Kyle Cooper outlasted Libby’s Nate Broden and Cyrus Maloney, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4.
Jackie Mee cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jane Probst in the girls’ competition. Lindsay Kehn also took a victory for the Lady Loggers by downing Sara Keeble, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3.
The Pirates had the upper hand on the team score, 5-2.
Libby next heads to the Cutbank Tournament on April 17-18.

Troy Softball Takes Two From Drummond
The Drummond High School softball team rolled into Troy Saturday with high hopes of ending a long streak of being on the wrong end of the score, and for half of the first game of the doubleheader, looked like they had every chance of doing just that. However the host Trojans exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and then shut down Drummond in the top of the fifth, winning 14-3. Troy kept the bats hot in the second game, plating 21 runs to end that game early as well, 21-11.
