MOSES LAKE — The first annual Moses Lake Parks and Recreation Disc Golf Tournament held at Blue Heron Park Saturday afternoon was a success.
Moses Lake Parks and Recreation had 54 participants sign up for the first disc golf tournament at the new Blue Heron Park disc golf course, said recreation supervisor Lori Moholt-Phillips.
“We ended up with 54 participants who played 54 holes of disc golf,” she said. “It was great.”
The disc golf baskets at Blue Heron Park were installed in the spring of 2007 and the tee boxes were installed in the spring of 2008.
With the Blue Heron Park course having been completed for nearly a year, Moholt-Phillips said tournament participants were excited to have access to a local course.
“The athletes were very thankful to have a tournament here,” she said.
Winners of the respective divisions received a trophy from Lake Bowl and a trophy disk. Runners-up received a second-place trophy disk, Moholt-Phillips said.
“First place (finishers) received a trophy donated by Lake Bowl,” she said. “We also had a $20 gift certificate from Tri-State Outfitters donated by Sandy Keller.”
Saturday’s tournament was the first tournament at the Parks and Recreation course and despite the weather, Moholt-Phillips said the event was a success.
“All in all, it got windy in the afternoon. But it was a good day,” she said. “It was a learning experience for everyone. It was great.”
