The Libby High School softball team went 3-0 during the Frenchtown Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Loggers opened with a 9-0 shutout over Loyola Sacred Heart, a Class B school out of Missoula, on Friday. Then on Saturday, LHS disposed of Corvallis, 17-3, and Hamilton, 15-1.

In all, Libby outscored the three tournament opponents, 41-4.

“I’ll tell you what, we’ve had our ups and downs,” LHS coach Dean Thompson said. “But we got the bats going, played great defense and Taylor Armstrong pitched three strong games.”

In Friday’s win, Jordan Refsland, Emily Monroe and LaRona Luscher each collected a pair of hits in the victory. Monroe and Refsland each had doubles and Refsland had a pair of RBIs.

Libby got out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and then pulled away the rest of the way. Taylor Armstrong got the win at pitcher.

Against Corvallis on Saturday, Alysha Martin went 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Amber Grubham and Candace Hendrickson had a pair of hits. Alyssa Walker had a three-RBI double. Luscher also hit a double and Brittany Steele had a pair of ribbies.

Libby scored eight runs in the fifth to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Armstrong got the victory on the mound with a relief appearance by Stacey Oedewaldt.

Libby’s 15-1 win over Hamilton saw four players finish with a multiple-hit game. Nicky Lapka, Martin, Monroe and Lexi Hageness each had two hits. Martin had a double and three RBIs. Monroe had a double and two RBIs. Lapka and Grubham also each knocked in two runs.

Armstrong recorded another win at pitcher with Oedewaldt also seeing time on the mound.

Libby improved to 7-5 overall and is scheduled to host Polson on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Troy Softball Takes Two From Drummond

The Drummond High School softball team rolled into Troy Saturday with high hopes of ending a long streak of being on the wrong end of the score, and for half of the first game of the doubleheader, looked like they had every chance of doing just that. However the host Trojans exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and then shut down Drummond in the top of the fifth, winning 14-3. Troy kept the bats hot in the second game, plating 21 runs to end that game early as well, 21-11.
