Former Bonners Ferry resident Michelle Evans has been named the 2008 Idaho Prosecutor of the Year.

The Latah County senior prosecuting deputy, Evans received the honor for her work on two high profile cases in the Moscow area, one of which involved four molested Boys Scouts.

Evans successfully prosecuted former high school music teacher and Boy Scout counselor Timothy Kellis, who is serving 15 years to life in prison for sexually molesting the Boy Scouts at Camp Grizzly According to the Lewiston Tribune, the case hit home with Evans, who is involved with Cub Scouts with her oldest son.

The other case for which she was recognized involved a Harvard man, who is in prison for firing a shot past a Potlatch teenager’s head. This case was difficult because the victim died in a car accident before he could testify.  Evans had to rely on the victim’s recorded testimony from an earlier preliminary hearing.

Evans is the daughter of Pete Dyke of Bonners Ferry and the late Mary Dyke

The 1984 Bonners Ferry Junior Miss earned her bachelor’s from the University of Idaho,  with a degree in psychology and minors in sociology, social work and music. Evans graduated from the Idaho College of Law in 1993.

She joined the Latah County Prosecuting Attorney’s in Moscow  as a deputy prosecutor 14 years ago.

Evans’ husband Terry works in support services at University of Idaho. The 43-year-old is the mother of sons Joshua, 10, and Keith, 3.
