EPHRATA — Ephrata Raceway Park will host a Labor Day weekend racing doubleheader Sept. 5 and Sept. 6 after rescheduling a previously cancelled event for the holiday weekend.

The event was scheduled to take place May 2 before inclement weather forced a cancellation.

Ephrata Raceway Park rescheduled the annual Pepsi Cola sponsored Winged Sprint Car Cast Iron Nationals for Sunday, Sept. 6. The Winged Sprint Car Cast Iron Nationals will take place one day after the Starbound sponsored Wingless Sprint Car race on Saturday, Sept. 5.

The Labor Day weekend doubleheader will kick off Sept. 5 with participants in the Wingless Sprint races vying for $4,500 in prize money with $750 awarded to the winner of the race. The Washington Midget Racing Association (WMRA) class will race Sept. 5, as will the West Coast Vintage Racers Sprint Cars, the Golden Wheels Midgets, and the Ephrata Pioneer Muffler II Adult Hornets. The gates for the Sept. 5 races will open at 5 p.m. and racing is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Ephrata Raceway Park’s Labor Day weekend doubleheader will resume Sept. 6 with the rescheduled Pepsi Cola Cast Iron Nationals.

Driver participating in the Cast Iron Nationals will compete for a $6,000 payout with the winner taking home $1,000 in prize money. The $6,000 Cast Iron Nationals payout is based on a participating field of 24 cars to begin the A-main.

The Kim Janke State Farm Youth Hornets will also be featured with the Sept. 6 races. The gates for the Sept. 6 races will open at 3 p.m. and racing is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Ephrata Raceway Park will host a twilight fireworks show following the action.

Ephrata Raceway Park announced the First Open Comp Ultimate Challenge 125 races for Sept. 6 last week. The first-ever event will include 125 laps as drivers compete for $3,000 in prize money.
