ReVard L. Lund, 78, passed away Aug. 11, 2009, at the Montana Veterans Home in Columbia Falls.

He was born Sept. 9, 1930, in Elgin, N.D., and raised in South Dakota. He graduated from Rapid City High School in 1948. He also attended Shattuck Military Academy in Minnesota, and the South Dakota School of Mines, from 1948 to 1952.

ReVard served in the U.S. Army as a specialist in nuclear weapons from 1958 to 1964, in Okinawa, Japan, Fort Hood, Texas, and Thule, Greenland, before being honorably discharged.

In 1960, he married Noemi Duran in Pasadena, Calif.

ReVard had owned a hardware store in Rapid City, S.D. After his military service, he owned a bakery business until moving the family to southern California, in 1966. He and Noemi lived in the resort area of Big Bear Lake, Calif., where they raised their children, and where ReVard was a real estate broker and general contractor for many years.

He was also commander of the American Legion Post in Big Bear Lake.

ReVard loved his Jesus, his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and birdwatching. The family has many happy memories of exciting vacations and just-for-fun joyrides on mountain roads.

He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Schneider; father, Erick E. Lund; and mother, Violet Hanson.

ReVard is survived by his wife of 48 years, Noemi Duran Lund, of Kalispell; children, Chris J. Lund, Lisa V. Hazen and husband, Jerry, all of Kalispell; and Mac Tilburg and Debbie Tilburg. He is also survived by his siblings, Lavere Lund and wife, Connie, of Santa Ynez, Calif., Nadeen and Vern Ellison of Mesa, Ariz., Veree Lund of Redmond, Wash., and Erick and Cate Lund of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.; grandchildren, Allen and Sarah Hazen of Kalispell, Erick Proudfoot of Arizona, and Kendra Lund of Colorado; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

ReVard was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 14, at Buffalo Hill Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at Easthaven Baptist Church, 2010 Whitefish Stage Road, in Kalispell. Burial with military honors will follow at Glacier Memorial Gardens. Fellowship and refreshment will be back at the church afterward.
