MOSES LAKE — New Port of Moses Lake Commissioner Brian P. McGowan was sworn in during the regular commission meeting Monday.

McGowan currently works as an ER tech at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee and serves as a volunteer firefighter with Grant County Fire District 5.

This is the first time he’s held a position in public office.

He represents district 2, which covers west Moses Lake.

“I look forward to serving everybody,” he said after the meeting.

Commission President Delone Krueger said he knows the post will be challenging as there’s much to learn.

He wished McGowan well in being part of the commission and in working with the staff and others involved with “a very unique and special port, the Port of Moses Lake.”

McGowan completes the remainder of late Commissioner Larry Peterson’s term through 2011.

Peterson passed away in mid-term.

After an interview process, the port commission appointed David Plate, of Moses Lake, to fill the post until the next election, according to the port office.

McGowan defeated Plate in the November election.

In November 2011, another election will take place for the district 2 position. The winner completes the full six-year term.
