COULEE CITY — An early season buzzsaw continues to churn out victory after victory this girls basketball season.

The name of the product? Almira/Coulee-Hartline.

An early 18-3 explosion by the Lady Warriors in the first quarter was enough to lead them to a 62-44 win over Northwest Christian on Tuesday night.

The 15-point cushion after the first quarter was sparked by the shooting of Sarah Gloyn.

Gloyn scored 13 of her 17 points in the game’s first eight minutes.

“Sarah got some good looks and came up huge,” ACH coach Ben Addink said. “Defensivley we put good pressure on them and got into the passing lanes. Northwest Christian are a great program and I felt it was important to come out big and not give them any confidence.”

ACH (4-0) build their lead to 35-16 at halftime and were able to get floor time for 11 players in the second half.

“We got a lot of girls good minutes which is important for us going forward,” Addink said.

The Lady Warriors have won their first four contest by an average of 24.75 points-per-game.

“What we do well that makes us successful is we have a lot of speed and quickness,” Gloyn said. “We have good basketball IQs and play smart out there and play together. We know our roles and play as a team.”

Gloyn finished with 17 points and four assists while Madeline Isaak led all scorers with 21 points while adding eight assists and four steals to the ledger.

Nikki Osborne barely missed a double-double, recording 20 points and nine rebounds.

“We’ve got to keep this start in perspective since we’ve come out strong so far and done the job against some good teams,” Gloyn said. “There are good teams still out there that we can’t get cocky about in the future. We have to be ready for them too.”

Northwest Christian 70, ACH boys 61

COULEE CITY — A 10-point halftime deficit was too big a hole to climb out of against defending 2B state champs Northwest Christian as ACH fell 70-61 on Tuesday.

ACH trailed 41-31 at halftime and managed to cut the deficit down to six late but couldn’t get over the hump.

“Our kids played very hard, but failed to box out on the weakside of the zone,” ACH coach Scott Isaak said of his team’s efforts against their taller opponents.

ACH (2-2) was led by Derek Isaak’s 27 points. Kody Dillon added 17 points.

Northwest Christian (3-1) were led by Quinn Hansen’s 45-point performance off rhe bench.

“I’ve never seen anything like that performance,” Scott Isaak said.
