YAKIMA — Taking a trip south for the Sundome Wrestling Invitational could only help in the development of the Othello and Ephrata wrestling programs.

It doesn’t hurt to come back with a little hardware as well.

The Othello Huskies finished sixth out of 26 teams on Saturday, with 136 total points at the Yakima Sundome.

Wenatchee won the title with 185 points, followed by Toppenish’s 157.5 points, Sunnyside at 152 points, Zillah at 148 points, and Selah with 144 points.

Reuben Lopez took home the 140-pound title by virtue of a narrow 7-6 win over Ephrata’s Kurt Nygard.

Ephrata finished with 86 points, good for 20th place overall.

Othello’s Eddie Garza (third-place at 152-pounds), Amando DeLeon (third-place at 160-pounds), Daniel Walker (fourth-place at 171-pounds), Lucas Garza (sixth-place at 112-pounds), Joey Gomez (sixth-place at 215-pounds), Eduardo Montes (eighth-place at 135-pounds), and Alberto Vargas (10th-place at 189-pounds), all recorded top ten finishes.

Besides Nygard’s run to the 140-pound title, the Tigers had top 10 performances from Anthony Bush who finished fourth at 125-pounds, Chris Davidson who nailed down a fifth-place finish at 160-pounds, Robert Motzkus and his sixth-place result at 152-pounds, Preston Hendrickson’s run to ninth-place at 152-pounds, and Jacob Green and his 10th-place finish at 171-pounds.
