Officials around the Flathead have closed schools because of icy road conditions on Friday, and Bigfork is no exception.

The district office made the announcement on their Web site at 7 a.m. Friday, citing winter bus route conditions. The National Weather Service in Missoula has issued a freezing rain advisory for Northwest Montana until 9 a.m. Friday, but warned that the conditions could persist throughout the morning.

The decision was also made at 9 a.m. Friday to cancel the evening basketball games against Libby. Tonight's games were re-scheduled matches that were cancelled because of foul weather back in December. No decision on a re-re-scheduling has been made.

Schools in Kalispell and Columbia Falls were also closed, though Whitefish schools remained open.

For more information on the closure, call the district office at 837-7400.
