COEUR d’ALENE — A father and son from Coeur d’Alene died in a head-on crash on U.S. 95 on Tuesday morning.

Norman Flom, 67, who was accompanied by his son, Jason Flom, 35, was driving southbound in a 1987 Toyota pickup about 10:15 a.m. when the truck crossed the centerline at milepost 453 and struck a northbound 2007 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Robert Winey, 51, Bonners Ferry, according to the Idaho State Police.

Both Coeur d’Alene men died and neither was wearing a seat belt, police said.

“The outcome would have been different,” if they had been wearing seat belts, said ISP Cpl. Sean Daly.

Winey and his wife Patricia Winey, 46, a passenger, were listed in fair condition at Kootenai Medical Center Tuesday afternoon. Both were wearing seat belts.

The accident occurred a few miles north of the Bonner/Kootenai County line near Granite Hill.

Daley said there was nothing to indicate why Norman Flom crossed the center line while he was driving.

He said there was snow on the road when the accident occurred, but there was no sign that Flom took evasive action or had gone off the road and was overcorrecting before the crash.

“There’s no indication he tried to avoid the wreck,” Daley said.

An investigation continues.
