Rape suspect admits to assault

A man suspected of raping a 13-year-old girl pled guilty to an amended charge of assault with an intent to commit a serious felony.
In exchange Gary Lee Lies, 35, of Moyie Springs, is expected to only serve six months in prison.
“That was an extremely good deal,” said Lies’ attorney Serra Woods. “He got a good break. He has to register as a sex offender; that was one of the things the state wanted him to do. If he gets anymore criminal charges, then it will be on him.”
If Lies violates his probation, he will have to serve the remainder of his 2-4 year suspended prison sentence.
“I just want to get this over with, so I’ll plead guilty,” Lies told District Judge John Patrick Luster during Tuesday’s pre-trial conference.
“I don’t know if he quite wanted to take responsibility for what he did, but he did,” added Woods. “He was man enough to take responsibility.”
Lies was turned in by the victim’s family on Sept. 1 for allegedly raping the girl one day earlier.
Once officials determined Lies’ identity, he fled the state.
A nationwide alert was issued for Lies. He was arrested by Linn County Sheriff’s Office in Albany, Ore.
He was originally charged for lewd conduct with a minor under 16. The charge was amended after making a plea agreement with the state.
