The Arlee Warriors Wrestling team came off the Holiday break for the Mission Mountain Classic Wrestling tournament last Saturday and placed 12 of 15 wrestlers entered into the tournament.
Warrior sophomore Cole Rice at 130 pounds was the only wrestler to bring home the gold in the tournament. Rice defeated Eric Bergerson of Drummond in a 14 — 1 decision to win the championship.
Four Warrior wrestlers brought home the silver medal from the tournament. Freshman Logan Lefler at 119 pounds was defeated by Eureka Senior Randy Kirkedahl to take second place. Warrior senior Jordan Lefler at 135 pounds was defeated by Mission’s Michael Beebe in a 9 — 7 decision in the championship, and senior Tucker Lytle of the Warriors was defeated by Mission’s Jame Petersen at 140 pounds to bring home the second place medal.
Also Warrior senior Trevor Rice at 160 pounds was defeated in the championship match by Noxon’s Adam Moore in the final to take second place.
Three Warriors took third place in the tournament. Freshman Clayton Trimble at 152 pounds defeated three opponents to make it into the consolation finals where he defeated Devon Kamarainen of Polson with a 4:27 pin to take third place.
Warriors’ senior Leon Wieder at 171 pounds also took third place defeating Russell Greninder of Frenchtown with a 2:43 pin to take third as did sophomore Curt Seidel at 189 pounds. Seidel defeated Russell Dorsman of Frenchtown with a 1:55 pin to take third in the 189 pound weight class.
Four Arlee Warrior wrestlers took fourth place in the tournament. Freshman Zach Tameler at 130 pounds, sophomore Justin Monson at 145 pounds, freshman Carter Clinkenbeard at 125 pounds, and junior Travis Dupuis at 285 pounds all made it to the consolation finals where they were awarded the fourth place finish.
Coming all the way from Germany to wrestle for the Warriors is Marie Brunn. Marie has never wrestled before but picked up her first win of the season by defeating Jeremiah Chandler of Noxon with a 1:15 pin. Brunn has worked really hard to become a Warrior wrestler and it is starting to pay off.
No team scores were kept at the tournament, but as Tournament Director Jason Sargent reported during the event, “Using the Arlee Team Scoring formula, St. Ignatius/Charlo was in first place, and he didn’t have team scores for any other teams competing.”
This next weekend the Warriors will compete in the two day (Friday and Saturday) dual team tournament in Ronan.
Wrestling begins at 1 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday.
