GRANT COUNTY — The Grant County Democratic Party re-elected Ellie Webb as party chair Saturday.
This is Webb’s third two-year term as chair of the party. While she intended to resign at the end of this term, she said there wasn’t anyone who wanted to step into the position.
“It’s very hard for me to walk away from this position,” she said. “This is the time when we need to work on building our community relationships.”
She plans on reintroducing a project called Operation Paperback, which sends books to soldiers stationed overseas, primarily in Iraq and Afghanistan, Webb said. The party participated in the project two years ago, but it was put on hold during the election year.
“We send them as many books as we can,” she said. “It was really rewarding. We got involved with one unit in particular. We sent them everything from blankets to Band-Aids.”
Also she plans on spending more time working on environmental and energy issues and engage the community in discussing the issues. The party helped host a discussion on illegal immigration in the past, which she said drew people from the Democratic and Republican parties.
“That’s what has to happen to find a solution to these issues,” she said.
The other party officers include, Vice Chair and State Committee Man Alan Schrom, Treasurer Brenda Teals, Secretary Pam Calkins, State Committee Woman Jennifer McCarthy.
