Second Chance Animal Adoption is moving forward with plans for building a new shelter.

Don Jordan, a Bonners Ferry resident for 30 years, has been hired to design the project.  Jordan will donate 50 percent of his fees to SCAA.

“The designer is a benevolent person and knows that this project is needed in the community and wants to be a part of it,” said Rhonda Hammerslough, executive director of SCAA, “He knows the community well, and has completed many building projects in the community.”  

Hammerslough  is asking the community to help with ideas and fundraising for the project.  

“This is an exciting community project,” she said. “We welcome ideas and input from the community. We really want to pull the community into the project and to be an open book; this is their shelter for their community.”

Dr. Marty Becker  introduced a veterinarian in Oklahoma to SCAA who will be helping with the layout. 

Dr. Ross Clark will be sharing his blue prints on his building project currently under way. 

“Dr. Clark has helped with the layout and draining systems of over 75 hospital vet clinics,” said Hammerslough.

A site has not been chosen.

“We hope to have someone come forward to lease or donate property,” said Hammerslough.

SCAA will meet with county commissioners and the city of Moyie Springs to get them involved. 

SCAA will present information to city council during its meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at City Hall.
