Chiefs cage Pasco

PASCO, Wash. — Moses Lake left little doubt Thursday night as the Chiefs improved to 4-0 in the Columbia Basin Big Nine conference’s Columbia Division with a 48-21 win over wrestling rival Pasco.

The Chiefs won the first seven matches Thursday night, beginning at 140 pounds when Cameron Chlarson pinned Cameron Schlotman in 4:55 to give Moses Lake a 6-0 lead after one bout. Cameron Alvarado earned a 5-2 decision over Marco Romero at 145 pounds to put the Chiefs up 9-0.

Sammy Villegaas pinned James Garza in 24 seconds to give the Chiefs a 15-0 lead after three matches.

Moses Lake continued its dominance, earned decisions in each of its next three matches for a commanding 24-0 lead. The Chiefs took a 30-0 advantage when Levi Walpole earned a forfeit victory at 215 pounds.

Pasco didn’t get on the board until Damian Adams pinned Moses Lake’s Kabe Fluaitt at 285 pounds.

The Chiefs got back on track following Adams’ win when Hayden Wise and Robert Leyva pinned their opponents in the next two matches for a 42-6 lead. Wise pinned Deondre Sparks at 103 pounds in 2:45 and Leyva pinned Ryan Johnson at 112 pounds in 36 seconds.

Although the Chiefs ran out to a dominating lead, the Bulldogs won three of the meet’s final four matches to close the gap with Moses Lake. Moses Lake’s last win of the night came in the meet’s final bought at 135 pounds. Moses Lake’s Jordan Bishop pinned Matthias Ramirez in 2:48 to clinch the Moses Lake victory.

LIBERTY, Mo. — After leading the William Jewell College girls tennis team to an 11-8 record and a second-place finish in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, 2007 Moses Lake graduate Nikki Chambers was named a 2008-2009 honorable mention All-American.
