WENATCHEE, Wash. — The Moses Lake Chiefs girls basketball team held off the Wenatchee Panthers early and caged them late as the Chiefs knocked off their Columbia Basin Big Nine rival 60-39 Friday night.

The fifth-ranked Chiefs and the Panthers played a close first half with Moses Lake holding a 30-24 lead heading into the break.

Wenatchee hung around for the first five minutes of the second half with Moses Lake clinging to a 36-31 advantage.

With three minutes left in the third quarter, a Wenatchee foul sent Moses Lake senior Carly Noyes to the free-throw line.

Noyes was calm and collected at the free-throw line as she made both attempts for two of her team-leading 21 points.

Moses Lake began to run away in the third quarter when sophomore Jordan Loera sank a free throw to complete a 3-point play and give the Chiefs a 10-point lead.

Moses Lake pushed the advantage to 12 points heading into the fourth quarter with a 45-33 lead. The Chiefs were too much for the Panthers down the stretch and a stiff Moses Lake defense kept Wenatchee to six fourth-quarter points.

Moses Lake sophomore Jordan Loera finished with 10 points and eight assists for the Moses Lake victory.

Othello 61, Selah 45

SELAH, Wash. — The Lady Huskies of Othello overcame a 17-13 first quarter deficit to knock off Central Washington Athletic Conference foe Selah on the road.

Othello senior Allison Walker scored 26 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to propel the Lady Huskies to the come-from-behind victory Friday night.

Royal 49, Kiona-Benton 32

BENTON CITY, Wash. — Royal controlled the game from the opening tip and the Lady Knights beat the Kiona-Benton Bears for the South Central Athletic Conference girls basketball victory.

Royal dominated early, taking a 17-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 29-9 lead into the half on their way to the 49-32 victory. The Lady Knights were led by Dani Callahan’s 19 points.

Moses Lake 45, Sunnyside 16

MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake girls basketball team dominated the visiting Sunnyside Grizzlies Saturday night and the Chiefs rolled to a 45-16 Columbia Basin Big Nine victory.

Moses Lake senior Carly Noyes led all scorers Saturday night — including outscoring Sunnyside — with 21 points.

The Chiefs distanced themselves early and never looked back as they built a 20-4 halftime advantage.

Moses Lake sophomore Jordan Loera added eight points for the Chiefs.

Central Washington Athletic Conference Girls Basketball

Prosser 58, Othello 49

OTHELLO — Despite the Lady Huskies’ best efforts Saturday night, top-ranked Prosser was too much for Othello in the Lady Huskies’ 58-49 loss.

Kylee Mollotte led Othello with 18 points and Allison Walker added 12 for the Lady Huskies. Walker also grabbed 15 rebounds to record a double-double.

The Lady Huskies controlled the first three quarters, taking a 38-34 lead into the game’s final minutes. However, the Mustangs hit their stride in the fourth quarter.

Prosser outscored Othello 24-11 in the game’s final frame to cruise to a 58-49 victory.

South Central Athletic Conference

Girls Basketball

Connell 53, Royal 37

ROYAL CITY — The Royal Lady Knights couldn’t over come a balanced Connell attack as the fourth-ranked Golden Eagles won the South Central Athletic Conference match up 53-37 Saturday night.

Tawnee Gonzales led the Lady Knights on offense with 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Royal.

Warden 43, Ki-Be 40

WARDEN — The Warden Lady Cougars fell behind in the first quarter of their game with Kiona-Benton before rallying to win the South Central Athletic Conference girls basketball contest 43-40.

The Lady Cougars trailed 12-7 after the first quarter and 21-20 at the half before knocking off the Bears.
