SOAP LAKE — The Lady Eagles of Soap Lake hosted the Waterville Shockers Tuesday night in North Central Washington 2B action and flew away with a hard-fought 42-34 victory.

The Shockers got off to a quick 11-5 lead before the Lady Eagles found their wings, flying into to take a 16-11 advantage.

The Lady Eagles went on an 11-0 run by capitalizing on the defensive skills of junior Samantha Marthini under the boards and the shooting ability of senior Chelsea Allen.

Allen was deadly from behind the 3-point arc and nearly perfect from the charity stripe.

By the time the second quarter came to close, the Lady Eagles had soared to a 10-point 25-15 advantage heading into the locker room.

The third period was a low-scoring affair with neither team being able to put the ball in the basket.

The Lady Eagles offense managed to score 11 third-quarter points while keeping the Shockers from reaching double digits with six points to give Soap Lake a 36-21 lead.

The fourth quarter was a lesson in sportsmanship as Soap Lake head coach Larry Moffet put his starters on the bench benched the starters to give his reserve players and opportunity to play.

“They all practice, they all get to play,” Moffet said. “First we’re a team, then we’re players.”

The Lady Eagles ended the game with 42 points behind Allen’s shooting skills. The Shockers closed the gap in the final minutes, but the Lady Eagles soared to the 42-34 victory.
